Massage Therapy

Swedish Massage:

Swedish massage is the most common massage. The therapist uses gentle pressure to promote relaxation. It involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles. It reduces stress both physically and emotionally. There are many benefits to Swedish massage which are the following:

  • loosening tight muscles and stretching connective tissues
  • relieving cramps and muscle spasms and decreasing muscle fatigue
  • loosening joints and improving range of motion
  • increasing muscle strength
  • calming the nervous system
  • stimulating blood circulation
  • firming up muscle and skin tone
  • relieving symptoms of such disorders as asthma, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic and acute pain syndromes, myofacial pain, headache, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and athletic injuries
  • speeding up healing from injury and illness
  • improving lymphatic drainage of metabolic wastes

Shiatsu:

Like acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine. It aims to balance the natural flow of energy in the body. The therapist uses finger or palm pressure on the meridians of the body in a specific sequence. This technique improves circulation, reduces stress and relieves stiff muscles. Shiatsu has no oil or lotions used during the session therefore you remain fully clothed during the treatment.

Deep Tissue Massage:

This type of massage focuses on the deep muscle layers in the body. Certain areas in the body are more prone to adhesions such as the neck, shoulders and low back. Adhesions can cause inflammation decreased range of motion and may block circulation. Deep tissue massage works specifically on breaking down these adhesions to restore normal function. The movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of pain and tension. The therapist may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during the deep tissue massage.

Prenatal massage:

Prenatal massage is designed specifically for expectant mothers who are going through many physical changes. Some of the changes include muscular tension, headaches, low back pain, and knee pressure. Prenatal massage will help improve these symptoms and many more. The therapist will have you positioned on your side rather than on your back or stomach. The therapist at Integrative Chiropractic Center is trained to work on women who are in their first trimester therefore massage may be given as early as the first day of the pregnancy.

Sinus Drainage:

Many people suffer from sinus pressure, sinus infections and allergies. This type of massage uses pressure on specific points of the face that helps relieve sinus congestion. It drains the sinuses and relieves headaches and pressure in the head and face.
