The most common method of adjustment is called Diversified technique. With this method the practitioner physically moves the joint with a small fast impulse that causes a release or what the patients often calls "popping or cracking". The sound that the patient hears is a release of gas pressure within the joint when it resets itself during the adjustment. Subluxations exist for a good amount of time before the muscles of the spine adapt to the incorrect position of the vertebrae. Once that occurs, the muscles have to be retrained to be in their proper positions. It may take a series of adjustments before the muscles become accustomed to holding the vertebrae in the proper position. That is why periodic spinal checkups, even when you feel good, are so important. Prevention is the key to maintaining good health!
